About Me

Denise Kennemer, MS, Certified Journal Instructor, is the founder of Scribing a Life. Her mission is to teach mid-life women how to use reflective writing to redesign their lives and their careers on their own terms. For over thirty two years Denise has provided training and development services and coaching to help professionals be successful in the workplace. She has facilitated a wide range of soft skill training including journaling in the classroom, coaching, and quality management tools. She now uses these facilitation and coaching skills, and her own experiences with transitions through divorce, blended family and career change, to help women create the life they want after 50.

Propelled by her own personal transitions through journal writing, Denise is passionate about sharing this resource with mid-life women who are making a mid life career change. It is her sincere desire to help women discover just the right mix of work, volunteer, and leisure activities that support their core values and leverage their interests, talents and life experiences.

She received her Master’s degree in Human Environmental Sciences from Oklahoma State University and numerous facilitator certifications from Achieve Global and Developmental Dimensions International. She has worked as the Director of Professional Development at Oklahoma Department of Career Tech and as the Chief Institutional Learning Officer at Metro Technology Centers.

In her leisure time, Denise enjoys traveling with her husband, reading, volunteering in her church and spending time with friends and family. She and her husband make their home in Oklahoma.

Denise is a Certified Journal Writing Instructor in the Journal to the Self® method and is currently pursuing the Certified Journal Facilitator credential from the Therapeutic Writing Institute at the Center for Journal Therapy in Denver, Colorado.

  1. I haven’t heard the term mid life career change in a while. When I was in my 50’s I went to Seminary to get my M.Div. Degree and that’s how we described ourselves.. During the five years it took me to complete my study there were more and more of us, mostly women. I really like what you do to encouraging women to find their balance through journal writing.
